How it works
- Sign up. Tell us about your trip and how to reach you — that's it, no phone-number wrangling.
- Get a confirmation email with Chad's contact and instructions for adding him to your existing group chat.
- You @Chad him once to switch him on (you signed him up, so your tag is the on-switch). He'll introduce himself, then anyone in the chat can ask him things.
- Chad quietly keeps notes on your trip's details and itinerary. When anyone has a question, they tag him: @Chad what time does Em fly in?
- Check or edit Chad's notes anytime in the shared itinerary he keeps for you.
FAQ
Does this work on Android / green-bubble group chats?
Not yet — right now Chad only works in iMessage group chats. Everyone in the chat needs to be on iMessage (blue bubbles). If anyone's on Android, it's an SMS/MMS group and Chad can't read or post in it. Tagging him doesn't need a real iMessage "@mention" either — people just type "@Chad" or "chad" in the message and he picks it up. (Broader support — Android, WhatsApp — is on the list.)
Where does my trip data live?
In your own Google Sheet. At signup Chad creates a "Trip Sheet" and shares it to your email; that's the live itinerary you can open and edit anytime. He also keeps a small record of who set up the trip, so he knows which chat is yours. Nothing is sold or shared.
Who can talk to Chad? Isn't it weird he just joins a chat?
Chad does nothing until you — the person who signed him up — @Chad him in the chat. That first tag is what turns him on, so he can't be dropped into some random chat and start working. After that, anyone in the chat can ask him things, and he keeps going as long as you're in the chat — if you leave, he goes quiet. People joining or leaving otherwise is fine; you don't have to manage a list.
Does Chad ever chime in on his own?
Never. Chad stays completely silent until someone tags him with @Chad. He reads the whole time so he knows the answers, but he won't interrupt.
How long does Chad stick around?
Six months from signup. That covers the planning, the trip, and the aftermath ("wait, who still owes for the Airbnb?"). After that he stops responding. If your group keeps traveling together, you'll be able to renew for another six months whenever you want; same Chad, same sheet, same notes.
Is it really free?
During our beta round, yes. Sign up and go, no payment. After the beta it'll be a small one-time fee per trip, roughly $2 to $3 a person for the whole six months.
How do I remove Chad?
Just take his contact out of the group chat. Want a correction or a clean slate? Email us and we'll sort it out.
