Terms & Privacy
Plain-English version. Last updated: see the date in your confirmation email.
This is the short, readable version of how Add Chad ("Chad", "we", "us") works and what we do with your stuff. By signing up, adding Chad to your group chat, or using him, you're agreeing to these terms. If you don't agree, don't add him.
What Chad is
Chad is an AI assistant that you add to an iMessage group chat for a trip. He reads the chat, stays quiet until someone tags him with @Chad, answers questions about the trip, and keeps a shared "trip sheet" (an online spreadsheet) up to date. That's it — he's not a person, he's software.
Free for now
During our beta, Chad is free — no payment, no card. We plan to charge a small one-time fee per trip eventually (roughly $2–$3 per person for the whole six months). If that changes for new signups we'll say so up front, and we won't charge you for a trip you signed up while it was free.
What we collect
- Trip info you enter: event name, type, destination, dates, and a rough headcount.
- Your contact info as the organizer: your name, phone number, and email. We don't ask for anyone else's details — Chad picks up who's on the trip from the chat once he's added.
- The group chat messages, once Chad's in the chat — he reads them so he can answer when tagged and pick out trip details (flights, hotels, who paid for what) for the trip sheet. That includes the phone numbers of whoever's in the chat (that's how Chad checks that you, the organizer, are still in it).
Where it goes
- Your trip sheet is a shared online spreadsheet in an account we control, shared to your email so you own a copy and can edit or export it anytime.
- We keep a small registration record (your trip details + the organizer's contact info) so Chad knows which chat is yours and who set it up. It's stored privately, not published.
- Chat messages are processed by a third-party AI provider so Chad can answer questions and pick out trip details; under our agreement with that provider, your content isn't used to train their models.
- We use a third-party email service to send your confirmation email, and ordinary cloud/hosting infrastructure to run all of this.
We don't sell or rent your data or use it for advertising. We only share it with the kinds of service providers above, who handle it solely to make the product work. We may also disclose information if we're legally required to, or to protect our rights, users, or the public. We're a small beta operation, not a big company — we keep the moving parts minimal on purpose.
Who can talk to Chad
Chad doesn't do anything until you — the person who signed him up — tag him (@Chad) in the chat. That first tag is what switches him on and ties him to that chat, so he can't be dropped into some random chat and start working. After that, anyone in the chat can ask him things, and he keeps going as long as you're still in the chat — if you leave, he goes quiet. Need to hand things off or stop a trip? Reply to your confirmation email.
How long
Chad sticks around for six months from signup. After that he stops responding. You can renew for another six months whenever you want. To remove Chad sooner, just take his contact out of the group chat — he's gone immediately.
Deleting your data
Email us and we'll delete your trip's registration record and trash the trip sheet. (We're also building an automatic cleanup after a trip's window ends.)
Using Chad responsibly (your part)
- Get everyone's okay. By adding Chad to a group chat — and by being the one who switches him on — you're confirming the people in it are part of your trip and are fine with an AI reading along. You're responsible for that consent, not us.
- Don't misuse him. No using Chad to harass, stalk, or surveil anyone, to collect info on people who aren't on your trip, to spam, or for anything illegal or against Apple's / our service providers' terms. We can remove Chad, end a trip, or refuse service at any time, with or without notice — especially for misuse.
- You cover us for what you do. If a claim, demand, or cost comes at us because of how you used Chad, the content in your chat, or your breach of these terms, you agree to indemnify us and hold us harmless from it (to the extent the law allows).
- Don't lean on him for the serious stuff. Chad is a convenience, not a system of record — double-check anything that matters (flight times, addresses, money) and don't treat anything he says as legal, financial, medical, immigration, or travel-safety advice.
The legal bit
- Chad can be wrong, and that's on the AI. He's an AI working only off what's in the chat. He can miss things, mix things up, or be confidently incorrect. We don't warrant that anything he says or logs is accurate, complete, or up to date.
- "As is", no promises. The whole service is provided "as is" and "as available", with no warranties of any kind, express or implied — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, availability, security, or non-infringement — to the fullest extent the law allows.
- It's a beta — it can change or vanish. Features can change, break, or be removed; the service can be slow, interrupted, or paused; and we can discontinue Chad (or your trip) at any time, with no obligation to keep any feature, message, or data around. We're not responsible for messages Chad misses, replies he doesn't send, or anything that doesn't get logged.
- We're not the other services. Chad runs on top of Apple iMessage and a few third-party providers (an AI provider, a spreadsheet service, an email service, cloud hosting). We don't control them, aren't responsible for their outages, changes, pricing, or actions, and your use is also subject to their own terms. iMessage availability, message delivery, and your group chat itself are between you and Apple.
- Limited liability. To the fullest extent the law allows, we (and anyone working with us) aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any lost profits, data, opportunities, or trips, arising out of or relating to Chad or your use of it — even if we were told such damages were possible. If despite that we're found liable for anything, our total liability for all claims is capped at the greater of (a) the amount you actually paid us for the trip in question in the prior 12 months, or (b) US $20. (During the beta, what you've paid us is $0.) Some places don't allow some of these limits, in which case they apply to you only as far as the law allows.
- You use Chad at your own risk. You're responsible for your own decisions, plans, money, and travel — Chad is a notes assistant, not a travel agent, escrow service, or advisor.
- Governing law, the rest. These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state where we're based, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and any dispute will be handled by the courts there. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. Our not enforcing a term right away doesn't waive it.
Changes & contact
We may update these terms; the current version always lives here, and continuing to use Chad after a change means you're okay with it. Questions, corrections, or a data-deletion request — email [email protected], or just reply to your confirmation email.
Heads up (to ourselves): this is a plain-language beta document, not a substitute for a lawyer-reviewed Terms of Service / Privacy Policy. Before charging customers, scaling up, or operating in places with strict privacy laws (EU/UK/California, etc.), get this reviewed and pin down the governing-law/venue, the privacy-rights language, and a real dispute clause.
